A new year has begun. I usually feel that life gives me another chance to build and improve. Maybe it’s absurd since the year really starts every day when you get out of bed. In fact every minute of your life you have the opportunity to start functioning differently. Anyway, maybe it’s romantic but for me the end of the year is special because of that.

For more than 30 years I have been starting the year with the New Year’s concert in Vienna in the company of the Strauss family and their waltzes. And I don’t miss the ski jumps from Garmisch for the world. I like to imagine on each jump how far it will go. Maybe it’s a personal projection. “How far will I get this year with my life?”.

Sometimes the jump is very poor. But you learn from everything.

This year 2025 we can really make an impact on better care and prevention of neurodevelopmental problems in infants, children and adolescents. We can go far in the leap. But to jump well you have to train, prepare and, above all, jump with determination. This is only possible by joining forces in communities of professionals, educators and families.

We can really “change together the way we understand human development”. This is our great leap.

The data on neurodevelopmental disorders are truly alarming, reaching 15% of our 15% of our children -That’s almost one in 5! – ADHD, specific learning disorders, autism, coordination or language disorders are the most common diagnoses. It is a terrible issue that is affecting our society and families like an unstoppable flood. Perhaps it is because we are dealing today with the breeding ground of the lack of control in the use of technologies, but its origin is much further back. I will tell you about it later.

In December 2024 something came to light that can bring light and direction to this situation. A book was published that can change the lives of many children and professionals. A book that has been a joint effort of a great team of experts and that comes to guide professionals in health, education and families. “Neurodevelopmental disorders. An integrative approach in assessment and treatment.” Published by Elsevier.

This book is along the same lines, redefining human development together. Are you in for the big leap?

Take some time to write down your goals for this year if you haven’t already done so. Better handwritten than typed. Don’t forget to always have on your list of objectives something to learn, something to develop, something to improve. This year I included in my reflection not only goals but also habits. Anyway, it is time to dream, although every minute you have a new opportunity. Join me in this great leap!
